Clothing Collection
The Nibutani community members shown in this collection of photos are wearing traditional clothing. Ainu textiles were traditionally made by women from materials including tree bark, especially from the Japanese elm tree, grass, animal hides, and fish skins. Some of the decorative patterns on these clothes warded away evil spirits.
